"The myth of the angry sports parent"

Welcome to the world of Old School Sports Parenting!

This is a website for sports parents who aren’t afraid.

...Who aren’t afraid to demand that their youngsters work at sports year-round if they expect to play at a competitive level.
...Who aren’t afraid to leave work early to attend their kids’ sporting events -- even if others accuse them of reliving their sports careers through their children.
And most of all, who aren’t afraid to hold their kids accountable for their own athletic success or failure, instead of blaming coaches, politics and Global Warming when their college scholarship or pro contract don’t materialize.

I know you’re out there. And I know you’re as tired as I am of listening to some of the psychobabull that passes for sports parenting wisdom, nowadays.

I’m here to give you a voice.  Or at least to make sure mine gets heard.

You can learn a little about me by clicking ... well, the About Me link.

I also invite you to check out my "10 Commandments of old school sports parenting," as well as my Welcome page.  Between the two, you'll get a quick intro to where I stand on much of today's conventional wisdom regarding youth sports and student athletes.  (You'll also know within five minutes whether you've found a kindred spirit or ... not.)

My long-term goal is to add a discussion forum to this site. But that's a little beyond my technical capabilities right now. So, I'll start off with selected writings on a variety of topics.

Almost everything on here is my own advice from personal experience.  I make no attempt to cite clinical studies because, frankly, I don't know of any that accurately analyze the various dynamics of raising and coaching a young athlete.

I'll add something new as often as possible!

Agree or disagree, I hope you'll give me feedback -- including suggestions on other topics you'd like an "Old School" read on.

Thanks for stopping by.
